Are you happy?

June...in photos (so far)

I decided to challenge myself to start blogging regularly, and start taking  more photos of our life.  Lately, I've been focusing more on my little business, Aloha Living Photography, and less on capturing the moments in our life. So I decided that at least for June, I would take one photo each day and write a blurb about it.  

June 1 - went to a potluck and had no idea what to make, so I turned to my Pinterest board for inspiration and tried this out.  Definitely a hit!

June 2 - I can take a thousand pictures of that face.  I'll stick to this one for today :)

June 3 - I LOVE Mason Jars and will now find any excuse to use one.  I also add grated ginger to it, but I forgot on this particular day.

June 4 - No tears here!  We were both so happy.  My husband and our friend came home during their lunchtime and cheered for him as he walked in from school! 

June 5 - It's important to stop and smell the plumerias!

June 6 -  We water our flowers and herbs every afternoon.  I don't remember what he was telling me when I snapped this, but probably something having to do with an airplane. We do live on an Air Force Base, and the sounds of planes overhead is totally normal to him. 

June 7 - I only took photos of my husband's snack today.  He loves home-made toasted pita chips.  It's one of the only healthy things he'll eat.  I'll take it. 

There you go.  My week in one photo a day.  Hopefully I'll have something more exciting to show you next time.

No Dogs here.

 There's a beach here on base that allows dogs.  It's no wonder - I wouldn't put my foot in that brackish water.  I've driven by it a million times, but I've never stopped to check it out.  

 We didn't see any dogs, but we did see some birds and crabs.  For once, my little S wasn't afraid of a creature scurrying across the sand...

 We even saw a submarine!  I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to take pictures of these, but I doubt you'll be able to tell which one it was, where it was going, or decipher some other national security related information from this one photo.  So enjoy it,  'cause it may be the last one you'll ever see on this blog. 

All in all, we had a time exploring this beach.    Great place for photos.  Not so great for swimming.

Maui. Part 1

Solely for Pinterest.

Don't mind me.  I recently found some ripped pages from the Pottery Barn catalog sitting in a "to file" pile, and because I don't want to keep clutter around, I want them on my Pinterest boards.  But since I can't find a way to pin from the online catalogs, I just have to scan the images and pin them from this post.

This is the view from what used to be old military housing, which has since been bought out by a management company, renamed, and opened for residency to the general public.  The houses are all really old, but you can't beat this view.

Waimea Valley.

Waimea Valley, known also as a the "Valley of the Priests" is the kind of place you think of when you think of Hawai'i.  Lush, green, with waterfalls.  Well, there's only one waterfall.  But it's very picturesque, and you can swim in the pool at the foot of the falls (although you are advised not to swallow the water.) 

It's also a place to learn about Hawaiian culture and admire more than 15,000 kinds of tropical plants. Although the native Hawaiian actors seemed to be on break when we were there, I did manage to capture some (read: very little) of the Valley's breathtaking natural beauty.  But seriously, where were the half-naked buff Hawaiian men?!
